Mullah Nasruddin (Nasreddin Hoca), the eight-centuries-old “wise fool” character originating from the Levant, is the subject of thousands of funny, wise tales, jokes, and anecdotes told across the Middle and Far East, and retold today around the world.
These pithy stories and folk tales, extensively researched and carefully chosen from beloved authentic sources by an award-winning author, are certain to bring readers a smile, nod, or chuckle of self-recognition on every page.
Hundreds of Nasreddin Hoca’s most endearing, enduring stories, gathered here by an award-winning author in two volumes, will amuse, illuminate, and captivate readers with Nasruddin’s ageless, unique humor and universal humanity.

~ This acclaimed folklore collection details the escapades and exploits of the beloved 800-year-old Turkish “wise fool” Mullah Nasruddin (Nasreddin Hoca).
~Award-winning author Suresha has extensively researched to locate, collect, translate, and retell these 257 authentic, hilarious, outrageous folk tales and jokes, centuries-old “naughty Nasruddin” stories from the Levant and beyond, dozens gathered here in this volume in English for the first time.
~Some are relatively simple, straightforward “traditional” anecdotes and jokes depicting the Mullah as he daily interacts with his family, neighbors, donkey, community, and strangers during his myriad journeys.
~ Other stories may serve to disrupt our everyday expectations of normal behavior
~Many bawdy, ribald tales, previously suppressed for moralistic reasons, explore taboo themes inappropriate for children.

Lambda Literary Awards give nod to Extraordinary Adventures of Mullah Nasruddin
March 4, 2015 — The prestigious Lambda Literary Awards has honored Extraordinary Adventures of Mullah Nasruddin, authored by Ron J. Suresha and published last year by Lethe Press, a Finalist for Best Bisexual Fiction.
In a Facebook post, author Ron J. Suresha wrote:
Praise Mullah! I’m quite thrilled to announce that my book of bawdy Turkish folklore, Extraordinary Adventures of Mullah Nasruddin was named a Finalist in the Bisexual Fiction category of this year’s Lambda Literary Foundation Awards. (The book was submitted in Bi Nonfiction but was switched over …)
I’d especially like to thank Steve Berman for his support of this long-running project for a book I doubt anyone else would have taken a chance on publishing.
As well, the Bear Bones Books novel Salvation, by Jeff Mann and the BBB anthology The Bears of Winter, edited by Jerry L. Wheeler, were named Finalists in the Gay Romance and Gay Erotica categories. I’m so very proud to have had a hand in the publication of these two excellent books.
Mazel tov also to my friends, colleagues, and associates who were also honored. See you in May!
Additionally, the author wishes to thank his husband, Rocco, for his unending support of this peculiar work.
When asked for a comment, Mullah Nasruddin said, “I owe this honor to my beloved little gray donkey, Karakacan, without which I would have just been considered another old wise fool.”
The book is the sequel to The Uncommon Sense of the Immortal Mullah Nasruddin, by the same author and publisher, which was given two national storytelling awards.
The awards will be announced June 1st in a gala ceremony in New York City.
Once Nasruddin observed a grove of trees and thought, Since those trees bear fruit, why shouldn’t I?
So the Mullah went to the field and buried himself up to his belly in theground. When night fell, the Mullah became cold and so he dug himself out and returned home.
The next day, when Fatima asked him how it went, he said, “It was okay at first. I was just about to put out roots when the cold killed them.”
