Mankind’s purpose

Nasruddin had become old and was having a rough time financially. Once, while walking up the steep hill to the schoolhouse, a student, Mehmet, asked, “Why did God invent Mankind?”

“To climb up hills,” gasped Nasruddin, “and to pay his debts.”

We teach our children well — by trudging sagely forward: life on this mortal world is an upward climb toward knowledge and wisdom, balanced by a daily struggle to meet your familial obligations and responsibilities.

“Praise be to Allah that I have your young, sturdy shoulder to lean on as we climb higher. Let’s just not forget to breathe deeply!”
