Don’t Show It to Me

Fatima, Nasruddin’s first wife, was wed to Nasruddin from a nearby village by arrangement at a tender age. As was the custom those days in her tribe, she did not reveal herself to her husband before the wedding.

On their wedding night after the ceremony, Fatima sat before Nasruddin, parted the veil for the first time, and showed him her face. Unfortunately, she was quite a homely girl (although it should be said that she became less ugly as a young woman and that Nasruddin himself was no prize). Nasruddin cringed.

The next day as they were walking, she asked, “To which of your male relatives may I take off my veil and reveal my face, my love?”

“You may show your face to anyone you like,” he groaned, “so long as you never show it to me!”

Your Daily Nasruddin

This is one of the more sexist but widely told jokes of the Mullah, regarding his long-suffering wife, Fatima.
