A Mullah Nasruddin story
Accumulated merit
One day, young Nasruddin heard people say that anyone who fasts on the holy day of Ashura will surely attain the equivalent religious merit of fasting for a whole year.
So he fasted until midday, then he broke the fast with a sumptuous lunch. When asked why he broke the fast so early, he replied: “I’ve already earned enough merit from observing Lent this long to last me through the rest of the year!”
